I miss summer food so much when fall really gets here. This one, some chicken enchilada wrap thing, was delicious and all the better for being eaten out on the porch, and with the bonus of the whole crew being present. Not many of those outside dinners left, and trickier to all eat together with practices and such starting up. Those colours! That late afternoon sun!
Every year I miss early and late daylight more I think. I miss being able to get to my desk early and get a few hours in before anyone even stirs, in the summer. Or now, getting up there right after the school bus has taken away sleepy teenagers.
This year I’m making a point of thinking about and mentally listing things that I love that happen in fall and winter.
No outside dinners on the porch. But how about eating at my fabulous dining room table. In candlelight? A quirky gorgeous table made on Christmas Eve morning years ago, by a recalcitrant man and a helpful 4 year old. The promised replacement for tablecloth-disguised card tables. The day before Christmas dinner.
If you have good eyes and look at the little rock to the right of the sea glass you might be able to spot what this table was made with.
Lots of love, and a fair bit of cheekiness. Christmas Eve morning. Come on.
