Sweet bird

IMG_0092Back to this guy.

I’ve been joking with friends that there’s a heron at the beach who seems to flirt.  The first time I saw him he danced on a rooftop at dusk, and I think I developed a bit of a bird crush for him right then.

We’ve played hide and seek a little, with him  singing to me in his gronky voice, landing noisily in spots around the beach and then quietly moving when I’m not looking.  The tease.

So I thought I was joking about the flirting until the other afternoon when he seemed to be determined to circle around me and show off his best poses.  First he landed on the boat again, held his wings down and his belly out and seemed to say, “Hey baby.  Yeah? Right?”  Needed to be wearing a sleeveless undershirt and maybe a gold chain or two.  IMG_0093

He eventually took off and zigged around the bay, down on the rocks, up in a tree, always posing and looking sideways at me, and letting out a gronk and a flap if my attention wandered too far.  Flirtiest bird I know.

IMG_0096I played coy and talked to this guy a bit, but he didn’t say much.  Sort of crabby.

(I was a day or two late trying to engage him in conversation.)

IMG_0098Finally my heron flew off into the blue and I stared after his fickle self and said a little humph.

But that’s OK.  I know he likes me.  Before he left he sent me a heart.IMG_0090

    1. Thank you so much Donna!! I really love having a spot to put down my thoughts and pictures. I think someday I’d like to do a needlepoint book someday, and there’s a more serious book I poke around in my head, but I hadn’t thought about anything else. I SHOULD (hate that word) start carrying my camera with me though because my phone photos are sometimes pretty blurry! I’m so glad you enjoy reading them because I have a lot of fun writing them! I’m getting ready to write a blog on the painting website from a quick trip to an island up the coast here, and I think of the beach there possibly looking like some of your beaches there. I drooled!
