I was looking through old computer files and came across this art from years ago. The Lions Bay Lantern Festival. 2007 I think.

Excuse the sketchy scans. The drawings were made into huge banners that hung up in the Village. My cool friend who organized this part of it picked bright colours for the backgrounds; orange, lime green. Maybe purple? I can’t remember and do you know what? I never took a picture of them hanging! Ugh, Jenn. Ugh. Still, it was an absolute thrill seeing them there.
When I did the drawings I was a bit unsure how to get started but when I sat down it was one of those glorious and rare times when the ideas pour out effortlessly and my pencil seemed to move across the page with total confidence. I used a super soft pencil and the grain of the marks it left was somehow both gritty and silkily smooth. And then the fun of adding some watercolour over top.
Overall, just a joy of a project. Fun to come across them again.
