Well those black dresses have been ruling the roost for a bit, time to give them a friend.
It’s sort of like something from Grease, right? The jump from the black dresses to the pastel summer ones.
Five summer dresses. I am a big summer dress girl. I haven’t done so well in the winter dress department, still on the look there, but over the years I haven’t been able to resist bringing a number of the summer variety home to my closet, especially with those summer sales. They make me so happy looking at them there, like they hold a bit of summer.
I painted one of my favourites. This one has had my back at many events.
When my kids and I had a magical Hawaii trip together a few years ago one of the sweetest things (amongst so many sweet things) was throwing a bikini on in the morning, a summer dress over top, and being ready for the day. In February. For me that’s pure bliss. Throw a pomelo and a good book in the beach bag and I’m good to go. The simple life.
The rest of the year I seem to always be in jeans and top. My uniform. “She always wears black but she has the most colourful mind.” Should be tattooed somewhere on my body. I’ve thought of painting it around the top of my office.
I think maybe when someone is colour obsessed, like me, you have to buffer yourself a bit. Black shirts, white walls, lots of greys to make the colours pop but not take over.
But in summer that heat and sun seem to suck up enough colours that the buffer can take a breather. Maybe go to the beach.
The Pippin closet also has some new shirts and ties. Nine of them.
When I handed the first copy of this design over to Mary last summer — it always feels so great to hand that production copy off — it was all good but weeks later she had to point out that I’d forgotten to paint the coloured squares behind that I always do in nines.
Oops. I tried to play it like it was on purpose that it looks good with just grey behind, but it does look better with a bit more colour I think. Otherwise there would have been a lot of grey stitching. Even for me.
