I took a quick break from painting canvases for orders to work up a long-promised small hanging design.  I’d done the sketches way back in February.

Do you know what the hardest part was?  Those flipping flip flops.  I’ve been painting water a lot lately on the other side of my painting life (shiny water, lake water, making-me-miss-Hawaii water) and it was fun to do a bit more of a design take on it. Often I love coming back to the crispness of needlepoint design after a bit of time in the do-anything-you-want world of acrylics. It’s a sweet deal to have both on the go.  So the water part got figured out quickly and happily.  But those flip flops changed colours about twenty times.  The bottom of them.photo

And I had to call in the big guns to give an opinion on the strappy parts, whether they should be tangerine or lime.  The 17 year old.  That guy’s got a great eye.

So this little hanging is jetting its way to New York and I’m heading back to painting, chai in hand.  Tra la la.
