Well hello.
I haven’t had much to say lately, have I? I’ve had my head down painting canvases and that doesn’t make for scintillating blog posts. But it does give my thoughts time to wander.
Last night I was going through one of my sketchbooks, just itching to get to designing again. Often an idea will sit in my head for a few years before it comes out so sometimes I have to go back and check on them, see how they’re coming along. Percolating.
These ones sort of jumped out at me. I think they might be more something that will end up in a little frame in my bedroom than as Pippin designs, although that bottom starfish one came forth into a canvas, yay! I like the little one with the two cats and the mouse but maybe that’s mostly because those are MY two cats. I like to think of them as graphic elements in my life.
I don’t know about the top two but I like the little bug on the bottom. He looks like a shy little thing. I think I would like to design a series of four bugs just like the sea creature series, snap, chomp, peek, and squawk. I’d have to think up some buggy words.
I think these sketches probably happened at the ending of summer. I was trying to convey how magical it feels swimming at night when the phosphorescence are around. I gave up I think! Tough to show. I went to my funny shaped stars instead. They can move between being sky stars and sea stars pretty easily.
One thing for sure. These days my hands, when not gripping a steering wheel, so often hold pens, pencils, paintbrushes and other mark-making implements, and for that I feel blessed!
