Well I got through June. Whew!<\/p>\n

Looking out my window now it’s a promising summer morning, but that’s all new.\u00a0 Up until a day or two ago it was cool and wet.\u00a0 My youngest and I were lucky enough to run away to a friend’s beach house for a night and the second day it poured!\u00a0 No summer rain feeling to that drippy spell.\u00a0 But it was lovely.\u00a0 We and our friends were all tired and a little burnt out from the fun but busy school year.\u00a0 We spent a day puttering, painting watercolour and hanging pictures.\u00a0 I tried to get some better pictures of the amazing arbutus tree there. (See\u00a0http:\/\/jennifertanart.com\/2012\/07\/06\/summer-palette-beach-edition\/<\/a> for\u00a0a bit more on that saga.)\u00a0I sketched a bit and the girls sat on the floor in slippers and sweaters\u00a0and made friendship bracelets.\u00a0 A mix of\u00a0summer activity in winter wear.\u00a0 But there were signs that it wasn’t in fact November. Check out the bright\u00a0blue nails.\u00a0 And those are my pink toes!\u00a0 A sure sign of summer when the toes go hot pink.\u00a0 I was hopeful.\u00a0 Full of hope.\u00a0 It was mellow and cosy and just what was needed, and I got home that night feeling relaxed\u00a0in a way\u00a0I haven’t felt for months.\u00a0 A delicious way to start summer.<\/p>\n

Youngest one played a bit with this picture on my phone while we drove to the ferry.\u00a0Sent it out to the world from her seat beside me. \u00a0My grandparents wouldn’t know what to make of that!\u00a0 I can barely grasp it myself.\u00a0 My grandparents were in my mind a lot as I was travelling through the area where they built a summer cottage.\u00a0 It was funny looking out at the exact same view that I would have looked at when I was five.\u00a0 Hard not to get a little sappy with my daughter beside me, and thinking of all the times,\u00a0both wonderful and hard, that\u00a0life has shown me since then.<\/p>\n

And now I’m back and re-energized and working hard, playing catch up in painting canvases.\u00a0 And someone has flipped the switch (they probably had to stumble around in the rain looking for it) and summer has arrived.\u00a0 Yes!<\/p>\n
