I\u2019m very excited to show these guys all finished up! For me stockings always take a while to evolve and develop.\u00a0 I had a sketch I liked for a while and was so happy to finally get a chunk of time to get back and paint, but that was start and stop and they hung around my office partly painted for quite a while, somewhat polar bear-y in this stage.<\/p>\n

Scout seemed fairly suspicious, always keeping her eye on them.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

And her feet.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

And her behind. \u00a0So disrespectful.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The mermaids came by to see how it was going, too.\u00a0 Suggested their border colour as\u00a0 a possible background. Thanks, ladies.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Scout held onto her suspicions.\u00a0 She\u2019s had bears in her backyard.\u00a0 She wasn\u2019t about to turn her back on these ones just because they\u2019re a bit flatter.\u00a0 (She’s feeling street tough with the horrid new notch in her ear.\u00a0 I\u2019m happier with her guarding these inside bears than sneaking out and crossing paths with the awful neighbourhood white cat.)<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The bears, once painted, started to wonder what the things they were holding were.\u00a0 I told them they were presents, because they were sweet bears and I wanted to thank them for showing up in my head.\u00a0 (I should add here that each bear was drawn from a photo of a real bear.\u00a0 Even the guy lying on his back looking up at his toes. Bears are so awesome.)<\/p>\n

I asked each of them what they would most like for presents.<\/p>\n

Hazel looked at the package uncertainly, not sure if it was big enough for a longed-for pony but also thinking a nice ripe pear would be glorious.<\/p>\n

Lucy held her present close and thought about what she would really like to find inside.\u00a0 Maybe a pillow would be nice. But also\u2026 this box itself was pretty cool.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Jane gave her present a gentle shake and listened for rattles.\u00a0 She would love some pencil crayons.\u00a0 She\u2019d love to draw some bees and beetles and butterflies.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Bob wondered if bears could wear socks.\u00a0 Big woollen socks.\u00a0 He hated when his toes got cold.\u00a0 Socks would be nice.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Gracey sniffed her present and licked a bit of drool off her chops.\u00a0 She smelled honey.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Claire\u2026 no, don\u2019t call her Claire bear, never Claire bear, that is never OK \u2026 Claire spotted some little holes in the side of her parcel and hoped there might be a dragonfly of her own inside.\u00a0 She\u2019d love to share her space with a dragonfly.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Oscar thought a kite would be fabulous.\u00a0 A kite shaped like a bird.\u00a0 Or a caterpillar.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Eva crossed her fingers\u00a0 — no she didn\u2019t because doesn\u2019t have any but she sort of mushed her paw \u00a0pads together \u2013 and wished fervently for ten juicy apples.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Hans stood up on his feet and thought about what he wished for.\u00a0 A nice sunny day would be nice.\u00a0 Or a salmon.\u00a0 And some salmon ice cream.\u00a0 Maybe salmon sorbet.\u00a0 That would be sweet.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Randall just loved the wrapping paper on his present.\u00a0 It was so unbelievably cool.\u00a0 Maye there\u2019d be some more inside.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Lawrence tucked his chin down and and smiled happily.\u00a0 He hoped maybe, just maybe, he\u2019d find a cookbook full of recipes for berries.\u00a0 And grubs.\u00a0 And honey.\u00a0 With wildflower garnishes.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Jacob thought a nightlight might be nice.\u00a0 Caves were sort of dark.\u00a0 If he had a nightlight maybe he\u2019d figure out how to make cool shadows on the walls.\u00a0 Flapping crows.\u00a0 And bunny rabbits.\u00a0 And a rock.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

These guys. \u00a0What a nice time we had hanging out.<\/p>\n
