A dozen pots

I was lucky enough to get a beautiful blue Dutch oven a couple of years ago. At the time I wasn’t sure how to use it and it turned into my beef stew pot because that’s what you make in a Dutch oven, right? Beef stew.  I’m not all that good with change. I think once I went wild and made tomato sauce.

It took the tutelage of my eldest to help me branch out and start my love affair with colorful big pots.  He has temporarily returned to the nest after a few years out on his own, and he’s brought three pots of his own.  They’ve joined my blue one and a newer sassy little red one in a row on top of the kitchen cupboards. Happy sigh. The colours are so pretty.  There’s even one shaped like a pumpkin. One has a handle shaped like a fish. Another has a snail. I am completely and undyingly smitten.  (Probably should have mentioned earlier that I am also delighted with how they actually cook things.)

Now an important part of starting a recipe is making the big choice. Who is the pot du jour? This can get complicated as they’re up pretty high, even for a tall girl, and especially the biggest is quite heavy so sometimes it involves calling in some help.  Which never seems to be a bad thing in the kitchen.

Sometimes it involves thinking a smaller pot will be big enough, sure it will, and then finding out it won’t.  Am I the only one who continues to think that it will be big enough even as whatever I’m pouring gets closer and closer to the top?

In my imaginary house I have about twenty of these.  That’s more than I could use of course but the colours.  Sigh.  I heard it.  A smidge greedy.  All right, I’ll stay happy grabbing glances at the Le Creuset store on the way to the airport.  The store is full of so many different coloured and different sized Dutch ovens displayed on shelves down the sides of the store.  I always crane my head to see as I go past and it’s a bonus if it’s nighttime so the lights are all on and the pots glow.  They really do. To be fair, if I had a kitchen with all of those pots I would probably never to make it to the actual cooking.

So anyways. A dozen bright Pippin pots. Had to happen.
